Yesterday I discovered the perfect imprint from a bird landing into the snow. I imagined an owl flying low over the snow that swooped down to grab a mouse, but as random truth pointed out, it does look grouse like.
You might be right. I thought it might be a grouse initially but it this print wasn't in grouse habitat and I have never seen a grouse around this area (which isn't saying much). Looking through google pictures it does look more grouse-like. The owl prints I saw had larger/longer wing prints, although some of them looked similar to this picture.
You might consider your grouse. I saw a quail make a mark just like that once.

DeleteI edited my initial post (with credit) to improve my post.
DeleteThis is from a wild turkey. I found similar markings among a wooded area where turkeys were scrambling away from us, 1/17/2016
